An impressive silver vase

Meiji period, late 19th century 


the oviform vase with ring neck tapering towards the foot, decorated with various open fans inlaid onto crashing waves carved and engraved, the panels with various subjects including a full moon partly shrouded by clouds, a red-capped crane in flight and peaches, a pair of puppies, wheat, Mount Fuji and pine trees, all inlaid in gold, shakudo and silver, the fans variously signed to the cartouches
