A cloisonné enamel vase

Signed Adachi (Adachi Kinjiro) 

Meiji period, late 19th century


the tall vase of ovoid shape and everted neck, copper mounts, decorated in coloured cloisonné enamels on a dark blue and worked in various thicknesses of silver and copper wire on a hammered silver foil ground, with Kannon holding a sutra scroll aloft, on the back of a dragon, signed Adachi (Adachi Kinjiro)

45 cm., 17¾ in. high

Little is known of Adachi Kinjiro, but he is recorded as having exhibited at the 1893 World's Columbian Exhibition in Chicago where he was awarded bronze prize.
