framed: 23 by 29 1/8 in.; 58.4 by 74 cm.
Although known in his lifetime as a painter of religious scenes, Dorival is now better known as a painter of still lifes, most of which feature a basket of fruit and a bird, like the present lot. Only two signed works by Dorival are known. We are grateful to Eric Coatalem for confirming the attribution on the basis of photographs.
