The gentleman pictured here wears a luxurious costume consistent with the fashion of the very wealthy in the early decades of the 17th century, including the large millstone collar, satin coat with cape, leather gloves, and gold chain belt. The anonymous artist may have been inspired by the refined portraiture of Willem van der Vliet (1584 - 1642).
