Elijah in the Fiery Chariot

Pen and brown ink and wash over red chalk, within partial red chalk framing lines;

bears old attribution in brown ink, lower left: mich. ange de carr...ge.

232 by 124 mm; 9 ⅛ by 4 ⅞ in

Private Collection, France;

where acquired, 1994
This characteristic example of Mola's draughtsmanship does not appear to be connected to any surviving work by the artist, though it can be closely compared on stylistic grounds to an exquisite sheet depicting Venus Rescuing Aeneas, previously in the collection of Paul and Helen Bernat, datable to circa 1650.1
