Diamond brooch

1960s

Set with marquise-shaped and baguette diamonds.

Hailed as the “First Lady of Egyptian Cinema”, Hind Rostom (1929-2011) was one of the most popular movie stars during the Golden Age of Arab cinema, starring in over eighty films. Forever portraying powerful women, she became a bold symbol of feminism and Arab independence. Her career overlapped with that of Marilyn Monroe, and with her trademark blonde curls, sensual costumes and elegant couture, she was often heralded as the Arab World’s answer to the starlet. Having retired at the peak of her career in 1979, and famously turning down large sums to tell her life story, she has remained a glamorous enigma.

Rostom was known for her passion for collecting jewellery, sourcing pieces from around the world through her favourite jewellery boutique in Cairo as well as designing a number of signature pieces. She was also a regular attendee at auctions, seeking out her favourite gemstones – diamonds and rubies – in the midst of eclectic antiques.
