woodblock print, from the series Thirty-six Views of Mount Fuji (Fuji sanjurokkei), signed Hiroshige, with artist's diamond-shaped seal Hiro, censor's seals Fuku (Fukushima Saburoemon) and Muramatsu (Muramatsu Genroku), published by Sanoya Kihei (Kikakudo) in 1852

Located in modern day Kanagawa Prefecture, the coastal post town prospered during the Edo period as a maritime checkpoint close to the capital of Edo. As in Hokusai's famous design, The Great Wave, the crest of the wave dramatically swells upward in imitation of Mount Fuji.
