Description
Jupe kain kebat, Iban, Sarawak, Bornéo, Indonésie, XIXème siècle
113 x 54 cm ; 44 1/2 x 21 1/4 in
"Some of the finest ikat artistry appears in the ceremonial skirts known as kain kebat. In former times, they were called bidang, which is a runner’s slang name, but not to be confused with the actual name of a skirt. There is less formalism in the requirements to make a kain kebat, which in turn allows for some marvellous recombinant patterns that rise to very high level of textile art, of which this is a superb example."
