The reference 5951 was introduced to the market by Patek Philippe at Baselworld in 2010. Fitted with a classic tonneau-shaped case harnessing the perpetual calendar chronograph complication. Many collectors would draw direct comparison of the present watch with its famed predecessor reference 5020. However, in terms of technicality, the 5951 is a far superior watch than its predecessor and it displays the evolution of Patek Philippe in only a short 20-year period.
By adopting the calibre CHR 27-525PS, the 5951 features the world’s thinnest column-wheel-controlled split-seconds chronograph movement. Not only is this a rare complication to be found in existing Patek Philippe wristwatches but the development of the movement has allowed Patek Philippe to create the thinnest split seconds chronograph with perpetual calendar ever crafted by the firm.
Sharing a classic-shaped case with a bold designed dial, the watch embodies a never been seen before sporty but traditional characteristic. Extremely limited and exceedingly rare the present watch is a fine representation of Patek Philippe’s outstanding importance as a leader of watch and clock manufacturers.
