The reference 16550 is a highly coveted Rolex model which was in production from approximately 1985 to 1989. Like its predecessor, the present model was designed for explorers who spent long hours in places where differentiating daytime from nighttime is difficult. Considered a transitional model, as it was only available for a few short years, the watch features a 24-hour bezel and a luminous big arrow hand. The watch was given the nickname 'panna' dial which translates to 'cream' dial in Italian, because many examples of the 16550 with original white dial have turned into an attractive cream color over time due to a deficit paint Rolex had used at the time.
