References 6263 and 6265 began production in the early 1970s. The bezel type differentiated the two from one another, with reference 6263, like the present lot, featuring an acrylic bezel and reference 6265, fitted with a metal bezel. The 6263 and 6265 models are further distinguished from their preceding references by the introduction of larger, screw-down chronograph pushers and winding crown and the addition of 'Oyster' signed to the dial. The introduction of these attributes marked the standard for all future references and are still utilized on Daytona models to this day. The present reference 6263 is consigned by the original owner, a Dentist from a small town in the midwest. This was the original owner's second Rolex wristwatch, purchased in the early 1980s during a trip to Greece. By this time, the owner had a successful Dental practice and started traveling around the world with his wife. No matter what county they were visiting, he would always find the nearest Rolex boutique to look at the latest Rolex watches. The owner wore this watch on special occasions, who’s-who parties, black-tie events, dental conferences.
