The reference 2551 was one of Patek Philippe’s earliest automatic wristwatch models and featured their first and most revered automatic movement, the caliber 12-600 also used in reference 2526. In fact, 14 references in total shared this legendary movement, produced in circa 7,100 examples. Its 2 piece Wenger-made case is complimented by its Stern Freres dial, made in 5 different variations. The current example features the applied bullet indexes with a double index at 12. It is thought that circa 240 reference 2551 were cased in 18K pink gold, with only 25 having reappeared in the market since production ended in 1960 and the launch of its replacement reference 3433
