French contemporary designers and brothers Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec are “bonded by diligence and challenged by their distinct personalities.” Over the course of their collaborative career, their work has encompassed the full range of design, from small jewelry to architectural pavilions. In 2000 they developed a relationship with Galerie kreo, which defines itself as a “research laboratory” and encouraged the brothers to experiment with bold new forms in exclusive limited editions. The present lot is part of a collection created for the gallery in 2016. “Chaînes” is a series of lights suspended from the ceiling, each composed of bell-shaped shades stacked upon one another to varying lengths. When lit, each shade emits a soft glow, further amplified by the pure mineral white plaster. Simple and elegant in their uniformity, the chains evoke a sense of continuity, repetition and balance.
