Property from an Important Hong Kong Collection
An outstanding imperial inscribed white jade 'Ji’entang' seal
Qing dynasty, Qianlong period, dated to the bingxu year (corresponding to 1766)

the base of square section, surmounted by a pair of powerfully rendered intertwining dragons, each beast with open jaws and revealing a curling tongue between sharp fangs, its head framed by two long horns jutting backwards towards a long finely incised mane, the scaly body curling around the other beast and hind feet stepping on the hunches of the other, the sides finely incised with small evenly spaced characters with a poem entitled Ji'entangji ('The Memoirs of the Hall of Grace Remembrance') followed by the date Qianlong bingxu (1766) and two Qianlong seals, the base deeply and sharply worked with the characters Ji'entang in seal script, the stone of creamy-white colour with areas of black and russet veining resulting from a fire
