Qing dynasty, 19th century

清十九世紀 白玉雕仿古夔龍紋茶壺


the globular body set to one side with a handle carved as an archaistic 'biting' dragon and to the other with a short upturned spout, the body carved in low relief with a band of stylized kuilong scroll between rows of cicada lappets, all below a domed cover carved with pendent cicadas with an oblong knop incised with a leiwen band, the stone with a bright even tone and a high polish (2)

Gifted to the Brooklyn Museum, Brooklyn, in 1963 (acc. no. 63.6.24).
