K2 — [Greg Speirs, artist]
Limited edition “Panther Dream” Grateful Dead skis, 1992-1993
Pair of skis. “Blanks” decorated with multicolor graphics designed by Greg Speirs; scratched, rust to edges, some oxidization to laminate.
Approximately 78.75” x 3.25”
Drivin' that train, alpine terrain… — One of an edition of 1,750
Designed by the same artist who famously created the tie-dye jerseys for the Lithuanian basketball team in 1992, the “Panther Dream” skis were made by Lunatic Fringe, a division of K2, and named after a children's book penned by Bob Weir, titled Panther Dream: A Story of the African Rainforest. A portion of the proceeds of the original sales benefited “non-profit groups dedicated to saving our environment” (printed on deck).
