An estimated 600,000 people came to the Grand Prix Raceway outside of Watkins Glen, New York to see the Grateful Dead, the Allman Brothers, and The Band perform at Summer Jam at Watkins Glen. 150,000 tickets were sold for $10, but the remaining 450,000 attendees saw the show for free. At that time, it became the largest concert in history, and the audience stretched out far enough that most could not see the stage.
