Created in 1972 by Gerald Genta, the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak is predominantly known as a bracelet watch. Nonetheless, during the second part of the 1970's, some pieces using the same design were also produced as pocket watches. These open-faced watches were made in stainless steel, two-tone and yellow gold, such as the present lot. As opposed to the Jumbo, this version was not fitted with the AP logo, nor a date indication and had non luminescent thin baton indexes and dauphine hands to add an elegant touch one would expect on a pocket watch.
