A gilt-brass and rock crystal octagonal verge watch in 17th century style

Mid-19th century

• Movement: gilded, verge escapement, dumb bell balance, hog's bristle-type regulator set with a steel pin, stackfreed mounted to the backplate, decoratively pierced and engraved barrel, turned pillars, backplate bearing the signature J Kapler, Wien 1583 

• Dial: silver chapter ring, Roman numerals with half hour divisions between, gilded dial plate, the centre engraved with a pastoral scene, surround of scrolling foliage and a head above 12 o'clock, single blued steel turned baluster hand 

• Case: faceted rock crystal with gilt-metal mounts, tulip-form pendant, turned terminal
