Description
Set with a circular 'Dali d'or' coin depicting the profile of Salvador Dali and his wife Gala, the patterned reverse with fleur-de-lis and egg motifs, within a branch-like frame, to a textured chain, length approximately 700mm, coin signed Dali, frame signed Piaget, numbered.
In 1966 Salvador Dali minted his own gold coins in conjunction with Huguenin Frères, the Dali d'or, inspired by Louis XIV's Louis d'or. With four different values depending on their size and weight, the coins were occasionally used by Dali to pay debts and all depicted himself and Gala with as well as recurring motifs such as laurel leaves and eggs - a symbol of rebirth frequently used in his work. In 1967 Dali collaborated with Piaget to create a line of jewellery incorporating the coins, including bracelet, cufflinks and pendants, as shown in the present lot.
