Utagawa Kuniyoshi (1797-1861)
Three woodblock prints
Edo period, 19th century
each a woodblock print, from the series One Hundred and Eight Heroes of the Popular Water Margin (Tsuzoku Suikoden goketsu hyakuhachinin no hitori), signed Ichiyusai Kuniyoshi ga, censor's seal kiwame, published by Kagaya Kichiemon (Seiseido), and comprising:
- Ruan Xiaowu (Tanmeijiro Genshogo), with sword and girdle grappling an enemy underwater, circa 1827-30
- Shi Jin, the Nine-Dragoned (Kyumonryu Shishin), and Chen Da, the Gorge-Leaping Tiger (Chokanko Chintatsu), circa 1827
- Zhang Qing (Botsu'usen Chosei), throwing projectiles from a bucking horse, circa 1827-30
Each a vertical oban:
