註:「梯田種水稻,田裏灌滿水,一片明亮,四川人謂之鏡子田。偌大的鏡子照誰?照天空。莫道水田僅是水,其間反映了微妙的天空,天光雲影共徘徊……隨山坡上下回旋,阡陌蜿蜒曲折,墨綫在寰宇間浮游,是美是醜,全憑山坡的體態身段……如在此迂迴曲折中見龍蛇,這太巨大的龍蛇難於就範於獨幅畫面中,因此畫家須山上山下奔跑,坡前報後了望,瞄準其要害,擒住其身段。田埂上桑樹之交錯增添了水田之俏。……或者索興揚棄水光天色之色彩變化,既避免了油色之滯凝,更著力於發揮綫之盤旋與疏密,當又可創造另一番境界與腔調,這便是我經常將油畫水田移植進水墨的初衷。」

吳冠中自七十年代初,每走訪四川、廣西桂林、湘西之丘陵,均攀山涉崖,尋覓水田明鏡映天之妙境,先後寫得「水田」多幅,不論油彩水墨,背景多具山巒,突顯水田與山峰之高度對比。本幅按〈吳冠中畫展〉圖錄訂為一九八六年所作,構圖突破舊有格局,滿紙筆走龍蛇,利用水墨暢達之特性,大膽地以彩綫狀水田行雲流水之線條美,應屬畫家筆下僅例矣!畫中田窪載水,留白出之,水光如鏡,突於水面之田埂遂化為醒目之曲綫,隨山勢蜿蜒遊走。朱、翠彩綫相間,蜿蜒盤旋,圈復圈地由山麓收窄至丘頂,疏密間流露坡幅緩急,盡顯畫家之駕馭能力。平踞中央之白塊面,廣闊而規整,自是山谷平原之水田,無怪放目遍野,惟此處見小如彩點之農民行走其中。視野之遼闊,直如空中鳥瞰之景,已非畫家眼目能及者,當是匯合無數寫生經驗、勇於創新之成果!
