A classic American source of fine calcite, fluorite, sphalerite and barite, the now defunct Elmwood mine produced high quality collectible minerals for many decades during the latter 20th and early 21st century. The present example illustrates that quality in the two largest calcite crystals with sharply defined growth and rich golden hue, the top crystal in a classic doubly terminated scalenohedral habit, on a sphalerite matrix with numerous additional minute pale yellow calcite crystals.
