A Late Louis XVI Mahogany and Ebony Quarter-Striking Longcase Regulator with Remontoire, Year Calendar and Equation of Time, Circa 1790


the dial with Roman and Arabic inner chapter ring, signed Alexandre à Paris and below by the enameller Dupres; with ormolu hour hand, ormolu solar hand with sunburst counterbalance, blued steel mean time hand with star counterbalance, sweep centre seconds, and blued steel pointer indicating to the months on the calendar ring with their corresponding Zodiac sign and number of days; the weight-driven going train with pinwheel escapement; the two-train strike housed in the detachable dentilled pediment; the backboard concealing the falling weights


Nicolas Alexandre, maître in 1781, recorded working at Quai de la Mégisserie and Place des Trois Maries until 1789
