William Brui

Painted in 1976, the present work dates from the artist's American period. Brui had arrived in New York City in 1971, where he became particularly interested in post-painterly abstraction. He created his own series of abstract works titled Colour Fields, and MoMA acquired several of his paintings. Today, works from Brui's American period rarely appear on the open market.

According to Brui the present work is one of three works of identical dimensions painted in different colours. The white version was bought by supermodel Olga Pantyushenkova.
