The present bowl belongs to a group of colour-ground kinrande wares made for export to the Japanese market for use in their tea ceremonies. Jiajing-marked bowls of this design are very rare. A related example decorated with peaches is illustrated in Mayuyama, Seventy Years, Volume One, Mayuyama & Co. Ltd., Tokyo, 1976, p. 280, no. 839. Compare also another example from the Percival David Foundation collection, now in the British Museum, London, decorated with underglaze-blue cartouches of cranes against a red ground, collection no. PDF.770 (https://www.britishmuseum.org/collection/object/A_PDF-770).
