the straight watered steel blade with reinforced sharp edge and broad back, with rock crystal pistol-grip hilt, the velvet covered scabbard with metal fittings

A seventeenth century Mughal or Deccan rock crystal hilt of similar form is in the Al-Sabah Collection, Kuwait (inv. no. LNS 279 HS; S. Kaoukji, Precious Indian Weapons and Other Princely Accoutrements, London, 2017, cat.no.98, pp.264-65). A further comparable seventeenth century dagger from the Deccan with a rock crystal hilt was sold at Sotheby’s London, 25 April 2018, lot 161.
