the domed skull decorated with large cartouches comprising gold damascened inscriptions, the cartouches surrounded by damascened scrolling arabesques, the rim with a narrow band with damascened cartouches containing engraved figures of animals and birds, with applied sliding nasal guard, plume holders, spike, and aventail, the applied elements with gold damascened decoration, the aventail missing sections

It is steel, inlaid with gold and silver
by the order of His Excellency, the exalted Zill al-Sultan'

Zill al-Sultan, Mas’ud Mirza Yamin al-Dawlah (1850-1918), was an infamous Qajar prince, the eldest son of the Persian ruler, Nasir al-Din Shah.
