Karl Wennergren was born 1991 in Lund, Sweden. He studied illustration at Mälardalen’s University and went on to study art at The Swedish Academy of Realist Art where he started teaching in his second year and continues to do so to this day. He has also taught figure drawing at Uppsala University in Sweden. Karl has won several awards and scholarships including the SARA Foundation Scholarship, Yngve Andren's scholarship, Hudson River Fellowship, Florence Academy of Art Summer Scholarship and four awards from the Art Renewal Center with the latest being an Honorable Mention for the painting “Transience.” His work has been exhibited at the M.E.A.M. Museum in Barcelona, Jackson Historical Society in New Hampshire and Booth Gallery in NYC to name a few. He is currently represented by Gallerie Lorien in Copenhagen, Denmark; Galleri Torekov in Torekov, Sweden; and Ambleside Gallery in Greensboro, North Carolina. This year his work has also been selected for the prestigious annual show at Liljevalch’s in Stockholm.

Karl draws inspiration from the techniques and visual storytelling of the old masters while his paintings are contemplations on contemporary life. His work often depicts the rolling landscapes of southern Sweden and the mysterious dreamscapes that haunt his imagination.
