Maria Eleonora (1599-1655), married Gustavus Adolphus of Sweden in 1620 and their daughter was the celebrated Queen Christina (1626-1689). After Gustavus Adolphus was killed at the Battle of Lützen in 1632, Christina assumed the throne, but Maria Eleonora was excluded from the Regency council. She fell into a depressive illness and in 1636 was confined to Grypsholm Castle, where she lost her parental rights to her daughter and was forbidden to contact her.
