the base inscribed with four characters reading Chunshan qiushui (Spring mountains and Autumn waters)

A closely related enamel box and cover with similar lotus design now preserved in the National Palace Museum, Taipei, is illustrated in Enamel ware in the Ming and Ch'ing dynasties, Taipei, 1999, cat. no. 89. It bears a Kangxi reign mark, demonstrating it was one of the early successful creations of the enamel workshops.
