Description

woven in two parts, joined vertically through the centre, the large date palms between ogival lattice tided by crowns with tulip and flower head details, on a dark red velvet ground, with later fringe


137 by 121cm.

Ex-collection Edgar Vincent, 1st Viscount d’Abernon (1857-1941) and his wife, Lady d'Abernon, thence by descent.
The date palm was frequently used on Bursa velvets and is here paired with Italianate crowns. A velvet panel of almost identical design is in the Topkapi Palace Museum, Istanbul, inv. no. 23.291, another similar is in the Sadberk Hanim Museum, Istanbul, inv. no.10574-D. 130, see H.
