Bonhams London, 7 October 2014, lot 294.
This magnificent pair of floor lamps is evocative of the taste for grandeur and opulence among the princely families of India in the late nineteenth/early twentieth century.  Similar chandeliers of extravagant size and form with decorative details in the 'Mughal style' were commissioned from European glass manufacturers for palaces throughout the princely states of India in the twilight years of the British Raj. A similar pair of hanging chandeliers were sold in these rooms, 23 May 2006, The Indian Sale, lot 62.
