Description

of rounded form with convex sides, engraved to its centre with inscriptive cartouches between which feature medallions containing falconers and hunters on horseback, on a ground of foliate spirals, with geometric strapwork above and arrow-head details below, interior well with shoal of fish encircling stellar motif 


12cm. height; 18.2cm. diam. 

Ex-collection Bernard Bottet (1900-71) and his son Bertrand Bottet (1924-94).

Bernard Bottet was a French artist and archeologist. Together with his son Bertrand, they assembled an important collection of artworks spanning across continents and set up as collectors/dealers in the city of Nice. Their collection was dispersed over eight public auctions between 1989 and 2012. The present basin appears in the second inventory created by Bertrand in the mid-1980s on page 58, no.26 "[…] au fond, poissons et oiseaux d'eau"
