Description

Aeschylus

Two sixteenth-century editions in Greek, comprising:

Tragoediae septem [edited by Francesco Robortello]. Venice: Gualtiero Scotto, 1552, 8vo, woodcut initials, with blank leaf P7 but without blank P8, later carta rustica, untrimmed, occasional light staining

Προμηθευς Δεσμωτηως, Επτα επι Θηβαις [etc]. Paris: Adrien Turnèbe, 1552, 8vo, woodcut device on title-page, woodcut initials and headpieces, later English calf, spine gilt in compartments, yellow edges, joints cracked

Both these respected editions contain all seven surviving plays, though Turnèbe's edition still conflates Agamemnon and Libation-Bearers, which Robortello marks as being separate plays though defective textually.
