A Roman Marble Season Sarcophagus Lid Fragment

3rd quarter of the 3rd Century A.D.


carved in high relief with a personification of a Season in the form of a reclining figure of an erote facing left, with his back against the frame of the fragmentary central panel, holding a lagobolon cradled in his left arm and a fruit basket on his right knee, and wearing a mantle draped over the lower part of his body, his hair deeply drilled, two fowls hanging from a stick held by a missing second figure before him.
