Three gold-mounted walking canes, English, 1776 and later


the first with a tapering malacca shaft, gold-mounted hand loop apertures, the handle chased with bands below engraved floral decoration, gilt-metal tip, fully hallmarked for London, 1776, including partially rubbed maker's mark, probably for Elias Russell; the second example of malacca wood, mounted with a short gold handle chased with flower bands alternating with polished plain gold stripes, possibly James Graham, London, 1777, fully hallmarked; the third example an ebony cane with a tapering rose gold handle, J Howell & Co Ltd, London, retailed in Birmingham, 1918
