A large Russian lapis lazuli veneered and gilt-bronze mounted tazza


third quarter 19th century

the finely veneered shallow basin raised on a gilt-bronze fluted stem with beaded borders, on a drum-column with borders of reed and leaf and tied oak leaf, the square plinth with inverted corners

36.5cm. high, 35cm. diameter; 1ft. 2¼in., 1ft. 1¾in.

The present tazza relates very closely to an example from the Evgenii Semenovich Mollo Collection in malachite and is almost certainly by the same workshop. The Mollo tazza was sold Christie's London, 18 September, 2014, lot 278.
