For example, US regulations restrict or prohibit the import of certain items to protect wildlife conservation. Please note that Sotheby's will not assist buyers with the shipment of this lot to the US. A buyer's inability to export or import these lots cannot justify a delay in payment or sale cancellation.

Gumps was founded in San Francisco in 1861 by Gertrude Gump and her husband. Their business was enlarged further when the Gump brothers, Solomon and Gustave joined the firm and S & G Gump was firmly established. The buisness catered for many of the newly made millionaires on the west coast at the time. After the great San Francisco earthquake of 1906, the business was rebuilt and in the early part of 20th century the company looked to the Far East for inspiration, sourcing exotic objects and hardstones from Japan and China. The business continues to this day.
