This charming study of Putti in the clouds came from the Earl of Beauchamp's collection, where it was offered together with a number of other drawings of the same subject (see Provenance). It is not known why Tiepolo made these studies of putti and amorini, although the substantial series may have been inspired by Giovanni Battista's decorations in the Stanza dei Putti at the Villa Valmarana.
