Corey Mason is prominently emerging from a burgeoning generation of Southern contemporary artists. His distinctive human-scaled canvases carry the influence of his background in Landscape Architecture. His most recent work revisits childhood memories of gardening, leading him to begin working with a leaf motif in 2018. When the pandemic hit, he reimagined the leaf idea and began painting on an iPad at his home in Raleigh, North Carolina. Corey was able to then turn the digital works into analog silkscreen printing templates.
Mason's works pulse with the natural quickness and energy of his process, like a material record of the artists’ negotiations with time and memory. His smaller works on paper show an almost unconscious clarity of an explored thought.
