Munira Al-Kazi is one of the most prominent female artists from the GCC, widely celebrated for her sophisticated and subdued abstractions. This particular circa 1960s work, comprises her notable geometric motifs which submerge through-out her practice towards the mid-late 1960s when Al-Kazi was living in London. The artist’s abstract works take form in both painting and printmaking, with a predominant interest in etching. Since the 1960s, Al-Kazi’s prints and paintings have been collected by multiple international institutions, notably including the Victoria and Albert Museum in London and MoMA in New York. Her work has also appeared in exhibitions across Europe, the Middle East and the United States, as well as being displayed with the acclaimed Iraqi artist Essam El Said in the inaugural exhibition of Sultan Gallery in Kuwait on March 21, 1969.
