bronze, dark brown patina, on a veined black marble base
32cm., 12½in.
Max Klinger first modelled his New Salome in 1891 and completed the arresting tinted marble version, now housed in the Museum der bildenden Künste, Leipzig, in 1893. Bronze reductions of the model were cast by the Gladenbeck foundry with the artist's authorisation from 1903.
