The Golden Ellipse family of watches at Patek Philippe was launched in 1968. The elliptical designs origin comes from the golden section, a ratio discovered more than two thousand years ago. The watchmaking firm inducta from Thun-Gwatt, Switzerland was hired to produce a series of wall clocks inspired by this famous design. Patek Philippe named this series "Ellipse d'Or" and were distributed to their retailers for display within their boutiques.
