It could be said of the secondary market, as it stands today, that it is dominated by a very few, very famous brands focusing largely on the historical repertoire of these particular houses. And while, in the markets defense, it is undoubtedly built on very strong and very interesting fundaments, it could also be said that, novelties - new pieces, utilising new ideas and new designs - are all too often overlooked.

Perhaps however the present lot represents something different; something that is new, while at the same time encompassing those aforementioned fundaments that thrill collectors, the world over.

A direct descendant of 19th Century watchmaker Auguste Golay, Christophe Golay has fused his ancestral craft with pieces of actual history. The present watch, dedicated to Napoleon Bonaparte, is crafted in pink gold, the bezel is hand engraved with laurel leaves symbolic of the Emperor's crown with his Monogram at twelve and the display back is set with a 20 fr coin minted in during Napoleon's reign. The pièce de résistance though is the dial, composed of a section of a letter, written by Napoleon in 1807, and bearing his signature it is further adorned by his signature emblem, the bee.

Desirable to collectors of watches and historical memorabilia alike, the present lot offers a truly unique opportunity to own truly unique artefact.
