Released to great anticipation in Basel 2010, the Ref. 5170 was the first men's wristwatch from Patek Philippe to feature their own in-house designed and manufactured chronograph movement, cal. CH 29-535 PS. The movement required five years to develop and featured six new patents, although based on a traditional column wheel design.
The case is very reminiscent of the vintage Ref. 530 and smaller Ref. 130 chronographs that were themselves based on the classic Calatrava model. Fitted with a silvered dial it was the first standard production chronograph from Patek Philippe to have a pulsations scale. The present lot is offered in attractive condition complete with Certificate of Origin and presentation case.
