Property Previously Owned by Jack Dreyfus

The present lot was previously owned by Jack Dreyfus (1913-2009), an American financier and mutual fund pioneer, well known for creating the Dreyfus Fund (c 1951), one of the first widely marketed mutual funds. The Dreyfus Fund was among the first money management firms to utilize the stock market as a resource for additional capital in the 1960's. Dreyfus was widely praised as one of “the most singular and effective personality to appear in Wall Street since the days of Joseph Kennedy and Bernard Baruch.”

Mr Dreyfus was also a health advocate, establishing the Dreyfus Health Foundation to pursue medical applications for Dilantin in the 1970s.

Sotheby's is pleased to offer the present lot on behalf of a descendant of Jack Dreyfus.
