The present watch can be considered as one of the very last yellow gold wristwatches produced of the reference 6265, bearing a case number starting with an R for the year 1987. Indeed, reference 6265 (and 6263, its black bezel sister) were both introduced in the early 1970s and featured waterproof ‘Oyster’ cases, screw-down pushers for the chronograph and the introduction of the “Superlative Chronometer Officially Certified” demarcation on the dial celebrating the advancement brought by the improved 727 Caliber. The 6265 R series is considered the very last manual winding Daytona produced by Rolex. In fact, production of the 6263 and 6265 manual wound pieces overlapped with the introduction of the first automatic Daytona, the reference 16520. This makes the reference 6265 R-series an extremely rare watch to find and can be considered the rarest examples of this reference.
Additionally, the condition of this reference 6265 is stunning with sharp lugs, pristine dial and case, and set on pristine bracelet, coming from the family of the original owner.
