A contraction of Automotive and Aviation, the Heuer Autavia was first introduced in 1962. The highly luminescent and legible timepiece became a benchmark tool for automotive champions and further-sealed the legendary association between Heuer and the buzzing race paddocks.
The present example bears intricate details collectors are excited about. The timepiece is dated from 1968 and displays what the community refers to as a second series dial. The main differentiators from the previous iteration are the red accents at every 5 minute interval on the outer minute ring and the unmistakable red chronograph hand. The hands and indexes furthermore bear black striping on their surface, as opposed to the plain design observed on the first series pieces. This bi-compax Autavia is powered by the Valjoux 7730 calibre, a reinterpretation of the Venus 188 which strongly inspired today's TAG Heuer Calibre 16. It is finally fitted with the fluted pushers, which replaced the previous smooth round ones.
Preserved in outstanding condition, this timepiece boasts a uniform and matching dial and a strong case with strong bevels which bears the Heuer factory sticker. Given the usual wear and tear associated with these timepieces, the present lot stands as a compelling opportunity for the Heuer enthusiast.
