RARE. A complete set of 24 photographs relating to the Salonika Fire of 1917, photographed by the Royal Flying Corps and the Survey Company of the Royal Engineers. The accidental fire destroyed much of the city including 9,500 homes and left 70,000 homeless. Half the Jewish population emigrated due to the loss of their livelihoods. The images include aerial photographs and panoramas of the city in the aftermath of the fire, British soldiers helping in the relief, citizens trying to salvage items from their homes, refugees, and street views.
